Yesterday afternoon Little Buddy and I had been busily going about the day when out of the wild blue yonder he said, “I think we need a Coke float, Mama.” Now, I’m not a very spontaneous person. I like to have a plan for the day and pretty much stick with it and I hadn’t planned on making Coke floats, but when I saw his face with his eyes dancing with excitement and a hint of that I sure hope she doesn’t say no mingled in there somewhere I decided what they hay. Why not make a Coke float?
When I said, “Sure!” You would have thought a million dollars had floated down from the sky.
Sometimes it’s just not that hard to impress nine year old, I guess.
He helped me gather together the few things we needed: favorite Coca-Cola glasses, straws, scoop for the ice cream, ice cream and Cokes, of course.
Within just a few minutes we were sipping (okay slurping may be a better word for it) on our Coke floats and chatting away about all sorts of good stuff. I started thinking this spontaneous side of me just might be the way to go every once in a while!

I haven’t had a coke OR a float in….more than a month. I am seriously craving a coke. Classic, none of the diet stuff. Oh dear…
Oooh I miss Root Beer Floats!! I’ve never tried Coke Floats!!
Sometimes the simplest things are the best! I’m drinking Dr. Pepper from a can right now, but it could use a scoop of ice cream!
I can almost tell you exactly when. Probably the day after Christmas, 2010. See, my sister knows I have a PASSION for Coke in the little bottles. A passion I never indulge cause, well, it’s not diet and I would drink two a day!
So, she sends me a carefully wrapped six pack of those little bottles for Christmas each year…and each year I use at least one (OK, probably more than one) to make myself my favorite, better than root beer float. I never get to it on Christmas day but I’m betting I had one the day after. Now sort of wishing I honored that obsession; I’m craving one for breakfast and yes, it’s all your fault!
I love Dr Pepper floats! Yum!
I love Coke Floats, Dr. Pepper, Root Beer floats, or we used to call them “Frosted Cokes”…either way they’re wonderful…in fact I’m having one right now before I go to bed!
Oh i love making these! The kids love them, but honestly, we probably make them more for us!
