Applewiches make a great, quick snack for children and adults alike! Get this classic applewiches recipe that the whole family will love!

Applewiches make one of the simplest and quickest recipes for afternoon snacks for children. What am I saying, I still love an applewich made with a tart Granny Smith apple, real cheddar cheese and peanut butter. There’s just nothing like it.

Growing up, my Daddy would bring home a hoop of cheddar cheese for my Mom to use in so many dishes like grilled cheese sandwiches, cheese toast, to grate and include in her casseroles or just to slice and snack on with apples or grapes. I’d always stare in fascination as she would cut wedges from the hoop and peel back the thick rind that encased the cheese to reveal such pure, rich, and creamy cheese.

One of the snacks she’d make for me and my sister were these easy applewiches, filled with peanut butter and a nice slice of that hoop cheese.

When the hoop of cheese had been used, another would show up in a few days ready to be enjoyed again.

As the years passed by and I began to live away from home during college, I turned to a more convenient cheese that I could just unwrap slice by slice when needed. It seemed so much more practical, but even though it was cheese it just didn’t taste the same.

When I was contacted about having a taste test between Sargento cheese and a processed cheese, I was really excited about seeing if my son could taste the difference, too.

We tested bites of each, but I knew the real test would be when he made the choice of which cheese to include on his applewich.

The memories of my Mother cutting slices off the hoop came rushing back as slices of cheddar topped the peanut butter for our afternoon snack.

Here’s how you make applewiches with your children.

Cut thick slices of apple from your favorite type of apple. I prefer Granny Smith for the tartness, but red apples work well, too. You should get about 4 slices per apple.

Spread peanut butter on two of the slices of apple.

Place cheddar cheese on top of peanut butter.

Top with remaining apple slices.

Here’s my Applewiches Recipe. I think you’ll love them!
