A delicious recipe for Dr Pepper Roast Beef cooked in a slow cooker. Perfect for busy weeknight suppers.

Okay, before I go any further, I have to tell you that this Dr Pepper Roast Beef is by far one of the best slow cooker roast beef recipe that I have ever had.

Hands down.

I didn’t add any potatoes or carrots to this recipe. I wanted just the meat so that I could easily use any leftovers in sandwiches or other dishes later in the week. {There’s a great one coming tomorrow, so be sure to come back for it.}

I also want to tell you that my love for Coca-Cola has not faded. It’s a Georgia born and bred drink and I can’t stay away from it for long. But, Dr Pepper just adds something special to this slow cooker roast recipe.

Oh my stars does it ever.

I love putting everything in the slow cooker and heading off for my day of activities without having to worry about what we’re having for supper.

I need all the help I can get for having supper ready after a busy day.

Coming home from late football practice and now adding games to the schedule leaves me with few nights that I can leisurely cook supper – if I ever could during the week. These are the nights I am more thankful than ever for my slow cooker.

And this Dr Pepper Slow Cooker Roast Beef.

And early bedtimes.

And my DVR.

But we’ll just talk about the roast for now.

Here’s my recipe for Dr Pepper Slow Cooker Roast Beef. I think you’ll love it.

  1. I’m way excited to try this! I love making recipes that make the kids curious and surprise my husband! They are going to be so perplexed we pour coke {everything is a coke in Texas} on our roast!

    1. Being a fellow Texan… let me translate. She wasn’t planning to use Coke – Dr. Pepper is coke to us 🙂

An example from daily conversation –
      “Hey, get me a coke!”
      “Okay, what kind?”
      “Dr. Pepper!”

I HAVE heard that coke is very good though – if that’s helpful info!

    2. It’s truly fascinating the variations of “soda” or “soda pop” across the country. Apparently in my neck of the woods in the Pacific Northwest, we are prone to say “pop” while Californians say “soda” more often. (I like saying soda.) But yes, the South calls all sodas “coke” even if it’s not Coke.

This info brought to you by my Intro to Language class. 🙂

  2. I’m definitely going to have to try this! I’ve done the Coca-Cola with ham and all those other variations but never Dr. Pepper. Can’t wait to taste it! And, by the way, I’m a Coca-Cola girl, too! My mom grew up on Mr. Woodruff’s (founder of Coca-Cola) plantation in south Georgia 🙂

  3. Hmm, I’m not a huge Dr. Pepper fan, but I’ll bet the flavors work really well on roast beef. Also? My kids would totally love being allowed a soda for dinner. 😉

  4. Hey Robyn – I was looking for a new way to fix my roast for tomorrow and this looks simple. Love the idea of just meat to have for sandwiches later!!!! One question – Does the Dr. Pepper taste mellow out with cooking? I am not fond of Dr P at all. Should I use Coke instead or step out and try something new? How strong is the Dr P taste? Thanks for sharing!!

    1. The flavor of Dr Pepper does mellow out a bit while cooking, but if you really don’t like Dr Pepper at all I would switch it out with a Coke.

    2. I didn’t have any Dr. Pepper it’s not something I buy, BUT I had some Cherry Coke, so I am trying it on my roast this Sunday.

    1. How did you get the crust on the outside of the meat in the photo? Did you brown it first? That’s not on the directions.

    2. I don’t brown it before adding to my slow cooker and cook it as listed in the recipe. But, browning it before hand is a great idea. If you try that, I’d love to hear how it turns out.

    3. I’m making this today and to get the browning done, I seasoned my pot roast and rubbed it with Worchestire and a little olive oil, then seared both sides on the gas grill on the highest setting. This also seals in the juicy flavors. Yum!

    1. Hey Lisa, I use about a 3-5 pound beef roast, sometimes a bottom round and sometimes a chuck.
