Homemade Magic Shell on top of homemade ice cream is the perfect summertime combination. Do you think?

Perfectly rich and creamy, crunch and delicious, homemade magic shell is one of my favorite things to keep on hand when I know Little Buddy is having friends over for an afternoon to play.

Oh, goodness.

Who am I kidding?

There is a jar of this stuff ready at just about any time throughout the summer in my kitchen regardless if friends are coming over or not! It is just too perfect not to drizzle on top of a bowl of ice cream or an ice cream cone for that extra special little treat.

  1. I have made it a couple times now and love the flavor. But, it’s so much harder than real magic shell when frozen. I’ve been using the solid form of coconut oil, and I’m wondering if i should hunt the store for a liquid form? Or add vegetable oil to the mix? It freezes like crack a tooth hard.

  2. For those who don’t like the taste of coconut oil, there’s also refined which is flavorless.

Also, I had this idea some time ago. All I can say is, “I knew it!” 🙂

    1. Hi Teresa,
I keep mine stored in an airtight container on the kitchen counter. You can certainly store in an airtight container in the refrigerator as well. Just reheat in warm water or in the microwave for a few seconds when ready to use again. So glad you love it!!

  3. This looks amazing and I’m so excited to try this, but one question can you taste the coconut oil? My husband HATES the taste of coconut.

    1. Hi Bretany,
If he is super sensitive to the flavor of coconut, he may be able to detect a slight hint of the flavor. You could substitute with equal amounts of vegetable oil.

    2. You can buy non flavoured coconut oil, I hate coconut oil too but I use non flavoured and it came out perfect!

  4. 5 stars
I’ll be doing this with half chocolate and half pb chips. Then I’ll take it to my mom’s next time she makes homemade ice cream! So excited.
