Ingredients

Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.

Fruit

  • strawberries – look for bright red strawberries with vibrant green stems. Turn over the container to make sure they are free from any mold, bruises, white or green spots. If possible, choose organic strawberries.
  • blueberries – look for bright, plump blueberries that do not have signs of any mold or bruising.
  • pineapple – I love to use fresh pineapple! Many grocery stores sell fresh, cored pineapple or pineapple chunks in the produce section. Reserve about 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice from the pineapple to use along with the dressing. It adds so much flavor, sweetens the fruit, and helps the fruit from darkening once cut. You can also use canned pineapple chunks.
  • grapes – red, green, or a blend of the two are always delicious.
  • kiwi – peel your fresh kiwi and then cut it into slices or quarters.
  • raspberries – look for bright raspberries that are plump and fresh looking. Check to make sure they are free of any mold, or bruising, and do not seem mushy.
  • blackberries – when in season, fresh blackberries are delicious in this fruit salad. Check the packaging as you would the other berries.
  • mandarine oranges – peel fresh mandarine oranges and add the sections to the salad. There is no need to cut the pieces, but you can if you like. You can also use canned mandarine oranges.

Honey Lime Dressing

  • honey – the honey enhances the sweetness of the fruit without making it overly sweet.
  • lime juice – the lime juice adds a bit of acidity to the dressing and makes the dressing have so much flavor.
  • pineapple juice – use the reserved pineapple juice. You can also use bottled pineapple juice or substitute it with orange juice.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Prep. Clean all of my fresh fruit and cut as needed. See my recipe tip below for how to wash fresh berries. Add the fruit to a large mixing bowl.

Make the dressing. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the honey, lime, and pineapple juice until well combined.

Coat the fruit. Right before serving, pour the honey lime dressing over the prepared fruit and toss to make that all of the fruit is well coated with the dressing.

How to Wash Fresh Berries

Wash your fresh berries in a medium bowl filled with 2/3 cup of water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. Allow to soak for about 12 – 15 minutes and then rinse in a colander with cool water until clean.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you use frozen fruit in fruit salad?

Fresh fruit is best in this recipe since frozen fruit becomes mushy when thawed and releases additional moisture which will cause this fruit salad to become soggy. You can use canned fruit in place of fresh for the pineapple chunks and the mandarine oranges, if desired.

Can you make this fruit salad in advance?

This fruit salad is best when made fresh and within about 15 minutes of serving. If you need to make it ahead, be sure not to add the dressing to the fruit until you are ready to serve as the berries will macerate and release their juices.

What fruits would you not include in this fruit salad recipe?

I would not include soft fruits like bananas in this recipe as they are not firm enough and will become overly mushy and unpleasant.

  1. 5 stars
I love fruit salad but want it sweet! This recipe spreads 2 Tablespoons of honey over at least 6 cups of fruit but still gives me what I need. The pineapple juice is definitely the key to this recipe … one I would have never thought to add. THANK YOU!
