Chocolate Covered Peanut Butter Honey Crackers

Every time I make a recipe with peanut butter and chocolate I think of the commercials from the 80’s {ahem – no comment} where one person is walking down the sidewalk eating out of a jar of peanut butter and another is walking from the opposite direction chomping on a chocolate bar.

They bump into each at the corner with the chocolate bar going “ker-plunk” right on into that jar of peanut butter. Then they say, “You got chocolate on my peanut butter!” and the other says, “You got peanut butter on my chocolate!” and then they sit and happily munch away on their new found snack.

I wonder why I never found it odd as a child that someone was walking down the sidewalk eating out of a jar of peanut butter. Did I think this was normal behavior at the time? Now, I’m starting to worry about my younger self for not picking up on that oddity until now.

But you know, the commercials were memorable. Especially if I remember them all these years since. And they were right, too! There really is no two ways about it – it is definitely one of my favorite flavor combinations. It’s a classic, sort of like sweet and salty and creamy and crunchy.

The other day my husband came home and told me that I just had to try a cookie recipe that his nephew had made.

I knew I just had to give it a try the way he was carrying on over it.

He handed me a small plate filled with treats that had all of the great combinations going in it’s favor – chocolate and peanut butter, sweet and salty, creamy and crunchy – in every little bite.

I got tickled thinking that this would definitely have instigated a commercial – I knew it would instigate a recipe post!

They are so simple to make and are a great snack to make with children. Ready in minutes, but so much better after they have sat for a little while.

Here’s how you make them.

This Chocolate Peanut Butter snack is simple and amazing! Made with butter crackers, peanut butter and dipped into chocolate, these chocolate peanut butter snacks are a favorite!

Start with creamy peanut butter.

Add in a little honey.

This is one of the secret little additions that makes these snacks so amazingly irresistible. Don’t skip this part.

Stir your peanut butter and honey together until it is well-combined.

Honestly, I could eat this stuff just like this!

Peanut butter and honey makes a great combination on sandwiches and – err- spoons.

Spread on buttery Ritz crackers and top with another cracker.

Now take your chocolate chips and pour them into a bowl for melting in the microwave with a little bit of shortening.

Once your chocolate has melted, place each cracker on the end of a fork and dip into the warm chocolate.

Carefully tap off any extra chocolate and transfer to a wax paper lined tray to dry.

Now comes my little twist on Andy’s snack.

Sprinkle them with sea salt.

And resist the urge to eat the entire tray of them.

It’s a hard thing to resist, I tell ya.

Because they are out of this world!

Thanks so much, Andy for sharing!!!
