Smore's Dip on a graham cracker.

This S’mores Dip recipe brings the beloved flavors of traditional s’mores indoors, without a campfire. It’s gooey, chocolatey, and utterly irresistible, making it a hit at any gathering. Whether you’re hosting a party or just craving a sweet treat, this dip is sure to please everyone.

Similar to my popular dessert recipes, this S’mores Dip is simple to prepare and uses just a few pantry staples.

Why you’ll love this Smore’s Dip!

My family loves camping and this easy S’mores dip immediately reminds me of our fun trips, but without the campfire! It’s quick and easy, delicious, and always a crowd-pleaser!

I’ve discovered a few tricks along the way to making this dip a crowd-favorite:

  • Make a ganache: Make my quick ganache right in the baking dish or skillet. No more rock-hard chocolate once the dip cools. You can enjoy this Smore’s dip longer during parties, and cleanup is so much easier!
  • Customize it: Need gluten-free? See my gluten-free recommendations. Serving a larger crowd? I’ve got you covered there, too. Want a seasonal theme? See my suggestions under variations below.
  • Pick your dipper: Graham crackers are the classic dipper choice, but I also love to use Biscoff cookies or vanilla wafers, strawberries and apple slices, and pretzels for a salty balance.

I hope you enjoy this recipe! Have fun with your marshmallow topping and your dipper choice and make it your own!

Why You’ll Love this S’mores Dip

  • Quick and Easy: Comes together in minutes with minimal prep.
  • Budget-Friendly: Uses inexpensive, everyday ingredients.
  • Crowd-Pleaser: Loved by kids and adults alike for its fun, interactive nature.
  • Customizable: Endless variations to suit different tastes, dietary needs, and occasions.

How to Make S’mores Dip Recipe

Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.

Ingredients

  • Chocolate: Use milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars for the base layer. After extensive testing, I prefer Ghirardelli chips for a smoother melting chocolate.
  • Heavy Cream and Butter: Use to keep the chocolate creamy and dippable!
  • Marshmallows: I use either regular or mini marshmallows for the topping. I also use marshmallow fluff, my homemade marshmallow mixture, as well as some seasonal favorites I’ve listed under Variations.
  • Dippers: Graham crackers, but you can also use pretzels, fruit, or cookies.

What to Serve with S’mores Dip

Serve this dip with classic graham crackers for the authentic s’mores experience. For variety, try apple slices, strawberries, cookies, or even salty pretzels to balance the sweetness.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Chocolate Swaps: Use a combination of chocolate for deeper flavors or all dark chocolate for a richer dip.
  • Add-Ins: Mix in peanut butter chips or crushed graham crackers for extra texture.
  • Make it Quick: Use the microwave method in the recipe for a quick and easy dip in minutes.
  • Torch the Top: Skip the oven and use a kitchen torch for perfectly toasted marshmallows without over-melting the chocolate.
  • Skillet Smore’s: Skip the microwave and use the stovetop directions in the recipe!
  • Party Size: Double the recipe for larger crowds using a bigger pan such as 9×13 baking dish.
  • Gluten-Free: Use certified gluten-free chocolate, such as Enjoy Life, homemade marshmallows, or gluten-free marshmallows, such as Good Mallow, and serve with gluten-free graham crackers, such as Partake or fruit.
  • Vegan Option: Use dairy-free chocolate, heavy cream, and butter for the ganache and vegan marshmallows, such as Good Mallow, and fruit.
  • Seasonal Themes: Use your favorite seasonal marshmallows for decorating the top of your Smore’s Dip. For Easter, I love Peep’s chicks. For Halloween, I love to use Peep’s ghost marshmallows. For Christmas, the Peep’s snowmen are a favorite. But you can also use homemade marshmallows or marshmallow fluff and add decorative sprinkles.

  • Reheating Tip: Warm in a microwave or low oven to restore gooey texture; avoid overheating to prevent separation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I just use chocolate chips and marshmallows in this dip?

While you can just use these two ingredients, I have found during repeated testing with various brands and styles of chocolate that the chocolate hardened quickly as the dip cooled and required frequent reheating. By making the chocolate ganache for the base, the dip is easily dippable throughout the serving time.

What caused my ganache to separate?

Overheating the heavy cream will cause the ganache to separate and become oily. Be sure when you make the ganache to only warm the heavy cream enough to melt the chocolate and when you bake the dip to toast the marshmallows that keep the dip on the middle and upper oven racks and you watch it carefully. Additionally, to prevent the ganache from getting warm during the toasting step, you can simply use a kitchen torch for toasting instead.

Can you make this dip in advance?

You can and then follow the directions for reheating. However, since this dip comes together so quickly, I prefer to make it right before serving for the best results.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chocolate chips, milk, semi-sweet, or dark chocolate or chopped chocolate bars
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 pinch salt, optional
  • 10 ounces marshmallows, 10-ounce package of mini marshmallows or regular marshmallows
  • Graham Crackers, for dipping

Instructions

  • Prep. Preheat the oven to 400º F.
  • Make the ganache. Add the chocolate chips to a 9×9 baking dish or equivalent-sized dish. Pour the heavy cream over the chips and top with butter and a sprinkle of salt. Place into the microwave for 30 seconds. Remove and stir to combine. Return to the microwave for 30 seconds and stir until smooth. Spread into an even layer in the baking dish.
Stovetop Option: Set a skillet over medium-low heat and warm the chocolate chips, heavy cream, and butter until there is a slight bubble along the edges of the pan. Remove from the heat and stir until smooth and well combined. Pour into 9×9 baking dish and spread into an even layer in the dish.
  • Top with Marshmallows. Spread marshmallows to cover the ganache completely.
  • Bake the dip. Place the baking dish into the preheated oven and bake until the marshmallows puff and are lightly golden brown. Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving.
