These sweet potato chips may be a little too easy. Seriously. Fresh, delicious sweet potato chips in less than five minutes? It makes it just a little too easy to feed my craving!

But, thankfully, I don’t feel guilty serving them to my family since there are only a few simple ingredients in these sweet potato chips – sweet potatoes, olive or grapeseed oil and a sprinkle of sea salt. That’s it!

I use my mandoline to get thin, consistent slices of sweet potato. Of course you can use your knife as well. Then, I shake the sweet potato slices in a zip top bag with a bit of olive or grape seed oil before I pop them into the microwave for a few minutes to crisp up. Once they’ve lightly browned, I add a pinch of sea salt and voila! Done!

I’ll just tell you though, you will find yourself making these fairly often after you make them the first time! Everyone loves them!

Ingredients

  • 2 medium sweet potatoes thinly sliced

  1. Robyn,
I love sweet potato chips. I’d love to make these instead of buying them.

  2. So smart to shake them in a bag with the oil!!! LOVE sweet potato anything…can’t wait to make these!

  3. Didn’t think you could make chips in the microwave! Though, I wouldn’t be able to find out for myself, as I don’t own a microwave.

  4. 5 stars
OMG!!! Robyn!!! I just tried this for my lunch. I just fixed 1 potato since it was just me. Well, I was wrong. I’m typing while the last plate is cooling and I’ll be doing another potato!! SO GOOD! 🙂

People…TRY THIS!! Experiment with the time. For my microwave, 4 min was too long but even burnt…they tasted good. 3 min, not long enough. Around about 3 min and 40 sec…just right. MY POINT…WATCH THEM CLOSELY to figure out the right time for your microwave. Also, depends on how thinly you cut them. OMG!!!

Robyn, you know I’m pinning this but I’m also adding it to my Tried It Liked It board and sharing with my friends. 5 STAR!

    1. I’m so glad you loved them, Kim! Yes, different microwave ovens will have different power, so do start watching closely at the three minute mark until they just begin to crisp and aren’t soft in texture!

These look great I love sweet potatoes and Yams but I don’t like how mushy they can be as a french fry. I will definitely try these.

  6. I don’t have a microwave anymore. When we build our new Kittchen we had to decide between a microwave and a steamer because of the limited space we had. Can I make those Chips in The oven as well?!

  7. I know there will probably be no leftovers, but if that does miraculously happen, how would you store them?

  8. These look good. I wonder if they could be cooked in an Actifry. We got one for Christmas and it is great.

  9. Wow! These sound great – and quick! I will definitely have to give these a go. I love sweet potato chips! Thanks! X

  10. I tried these and they just turned mushy. They never really crisped. 4 minutes. What did I do wrong?

    1. Hi Jenn,
I’m sorry that they didn’t turn out for you! I can’t be sure what happened as I’ve never had mine be mushy before when using this recipe and instructions. Thanks!
