Salsa Chicken makes a staple recipe that I turn to week in and week out! Made of just two ingredients, this simple salsa chicken recipe is great in so many dishes!
For years now, at least once a week, I pull out my slow cooker or my Instant Pot to make this simple salsa chicken recipe. With just two ingredients – my easy, homemade restaurant-style salsa and chicken – this recipe is a definite keeper and works perfectly for the busiest of weeknights.

How to Make Salsa Chicken
Thankfully, making this chicken recipe couldn’t get much easier.
Lightly spray the inside of your slow cooker or Instant Pot with nonstick cooking spray or mist with olive oil. Then add your chicken.
Next, pour in your salsa to make sure that all of your chicken is covered.
For my salsa, I use my homemade salsa recipe. It only takes 5 minutes to prepare in your food processor or blender and tastes out of this world! We love to double the recipe when I’m making this chicken recipe so that we have plenty of salsa to serve alongside the chicken or just to have with chips throughout the week! It is an essential at my house!
You can also use your favorite store-bought salsa if you prefer. Just make sure that you use enough to fully cover your chicken so that it has enough liquid and flavor!
Like it hot and spicy? Use a hot salsa. Using it in recipes for your whole family and your kids aren’t that crazy about spicy recipes? Then, by all means use mild salsa. Just customize it to your own needs!
Once your chicken has cooked, remove the lid and then shred it using two forks.
It is now ready to use in all sorts of delicious dishes! From salads to tacos, lettuce wraps and quesadillas and more!
I love to make this chicken ahead of time and then use it throughout the week in lunches and suppers! It is great to just pull out of the refrigerator, reheat it, and be able to have a flavorful meal in minutes.
What to Serve with This
Perfect Queso – Great with chips for tasty side dish with this chicken. Good, right?!
Guacamole – Cool, satisfying favorite with this spicy chicken!
Cilantro Lime Rice – So amazing with salsa chicken tacos, quesadillas and more!
Here’s my Salsa Chicken recipe. I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Robyn, this shredded chicken looks delicious and I love that it’s only 2 ingredients!ย
Thanks, Kelly. I love this weeknight wonder!
I’m not a fan of instant pots or pressure cookers (guess I’m a ninny). However, I do have a great crockpot. Do you have cooking time, temp conversions for such? I would LOVE to make this dish! Thanks.
Hi Leslie,
The recipe includes instructions on how to cook this in your slow cooker or crockpot. Hope you enjoy it!
We make this a lot in my house! It couldn’t be simpler and it’s so yummy!
Your photos are outstanding. I will definitely make this next week.
Definitely need to add this to my weekly rotation, so easy!
I know I’ll love this! I had already pinned your recipe for salsa but was just curious, if you had to use a jarred salsa, what kind would it be? Thanks Robyn! You know I’m pinning it!
I make this all the time and use Tostitos Salsa usually mild or medium depending on if my daughter is going to eat it.
Thank you Robyn.
