How to Make Strawberry Spinach Salad
I love using fresh strawberries in recipes when they’re in season. They add such a beautiful and fresh touch to so many dishes, and this salad is a favorite strawberry recipe!
Here’s how you’ll make it.

Ingredients
Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.
- Poppy seeds, sugar, olive oil, and distilled white vinegar – Use these for the homemade Poppy Seed Dressing.
- Fresh baby spinach
- Fresh strawberries – Cleaned, hulled, and cut in half. I don’t recommend using frozen berries for this salad.
- Roasted pecans – These pecans add a nice bit of crunch and an amazing depth of flavor to this salad.
- Red onion – Optional – Thinly slice these onions if you choose to use them. You can omit the red onion if you don’t wish to add it.
Step-by-Step Instructions
You can make this scrumptious strawberry spinach salad recipe in two simple steps!

- Add the poppy seeds, sugar, olive oil, and vinegar to a mason jar. Secure the lid and shake well to combine. Refrigerate for an hour for up to 7 days.
- Combine the spinach, strawberries, pecans, and red onion slices (if using) in a large salad bowl or on a platter. Pour the dressing over the salad and lightly toss. Refrigerate for about 10 minutes before serving.

Make Ahead Instructions
Prep the strawberries, spinach, red onion, and poppyseed dressing ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator on the day you plan to serve it. Then, about 10 minutes before serving, toss them all together to make the salad, mix in the roasted pecans, and top with the poppyseed dressing.
This makes it an easy go-to recipe for entertaining.
