How to Make Caprese Salad Skewers
These caprese salad skewers give you a fresh and interesting way to serve the much-loved caprese salad. They come together in minutes and can also be made ahead. Here’s how to make them.
Ingredients
Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.
To make these salad skewers, you will need:
- cherry tomatoes – Can also use grape tomatoes or a small, snacking salad tomato. Make sure ripe, but not overly so that they are firm.
- mozzarella balls – you can also cut a block of mozzarella into small cubes
- basil – fresh, whole basil leaves
- balsamic glaze – Use my homemade recipe or your favorite store-bought
- salt and pepper – I use kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.
- 4 inch bamboo skewers
Step-by-Step Instructions
Prep. Start by preparing a parchment lined baking sheet if making ahead of a serving tray if serving immediately.
Assemble. Place cherry/grape tomato on end of skewer, then carefully skewer one tip of a basil leaf, followed by piece of mozzarella, followed by the other tip of the basil leaf. Follow with a second tomato.
Refrigerate or Place on Platter. If making ahead, place lid on baking sheet or wrap airtight and place in refrigerator for up to 3 days. Just right before serving, drizzle with balsamic glaze as directed and serve.
Serve. When ready to serve, plate them on a large platter and then drizzle them with balsamic glaze and sprinkle with salt and pepper. They are stunning on a large white serving platter. And I advise you to always make a few more than you think you’ll need, because they go fast!
Party-planning tip
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place the skewers on as they are assembled, withholding the balsamic glaze. If you have baking sheets with lids, they can be stacked in the refrigerator. If you don’t have lids, separate the layers of skewers with sheets of parchment, then wrap tightly and store in the refrigerator.
