Homemade Dog Treats are so much easier to make than I would have ever thought a few years ago.

Homemade Dog Treats Recipe from addapinch.com

For a while now, whenever the notion strikes me, I like to bake a couple of batches of dog treats for our dogs as a special little goodie.

Let me just tell you, my dogs love these homemade dog treats so much more than any store-bought treat I’ve ever given them!

I’m very particular about what my pets eat, too. I only feed them the dog food that was recommended by our veterinarian and a few extra little things occasionally that he told me was okay to feed them.

So, when I found a recipe from Cesar Milan, even though I trusted him as a great resource, I still checked the ingredients against those that I’d been told by my veterinarian were safe for my dogs before I made it.

I modified the recipe for simplicity of ingredients as well as for things that I knew I’d have on hand in my pantry and refrigerator.

 Homemade Dog Treats How To

Four ingredients are all you need for these homemade dog treats.

Simple, right?

Oats, salt, beef bouillon or beef broth, and an egg. If you use salted beef broth, then you could cut the ingredients list even more and remove the additional salt.

And the instructions for making them are just as easy, making these dog treats simple enough to make on a regular basis or for giving to friends over the holidays for their pets or for celebrating.

You can use whatever cookie or biscuit cutter you have to make these, but I loved using a bone shaped cutter. The mini cutter yields about 30 dog treats and the large yields about 8. It’s great to make a variety of sizes and shapes.

Here’s the recipe for my homemade dog treats. Be sure to let me know how your pooch loves them!

I must say thats something what my pets are really loving, i have tried many recipes but my pets are so choosy but finally i have got succeed. Thanks

  2. JIM AND ZOE says:

Excellent recipe. Our greyhound Zoe, loves them. On our second batch – this one is wetter as I used a ex large egg. Easy to do and healthy for her.

I omitted the salt as the no -salt added broth is already salted. I spread on some Peanut Butter when I serve them.

    Thanks

I just made these on Sunday for our new puppy Tsuki (a Shiba Inu). I used pork broth from the roast that we had cooking in the crock pot. Tsuki absolutely loves them! I know this because when we take her outside and she knows we have one of these treats, she purposely sits and waits so we have to say, “come Tsuki” so she is rewarded with a bite! She also jumps into the fridge when we open the door cause she knows the treats are in there somewhere! I love that this recipe is so simple. I omitted the salt per Miria’s post, used organic rolled oats, and farm fresh eggs.
I tried to cut out shapes with my mini cookie cutters but abandoned this as the shapes were not very well defined and just cut the dough into small squares. Tsuki doesn’t mind 🙂

If you want to make it even easier to make a healthy treat for your dog, roll out the dough and then cut in rows (both ways) with a pizza cutter before cooking. I’m pretty sure your puppy won’t mind that this wonderful treat is a square rather than a bone shape! They break apart easily once cool.

  5. Amanda says:

I love how simple this is and how few ingredients are in them! I’m just curious, but what of brand oats did you use? Have you ever tried using Gluten free oats (like Bob’s Red Mill)? I wonder how much I would have to adjust the recipe… Thank you!

  6. Em says:

I make my own treats as well., but I have my own recipe. We find the meat broth unnecessary.
You have to watch the salt and sugar in recipes for animals because dogs can get high blood pressure and diabetes too!
I keep my baked cookies in the fridge (OMG, they don’t last long enough to though! lol) and any leftover batter goes into the freezer until I need it!
    My girls LOVE them!
    Merry Christmas, Hanukkah or other!

If you were to use bone marrow broth, it would be incredibly beneficial to your pup. Google it

  7. Sylvie says:

I would like to try to make these healthy treat for my two dachshunds. Would adding oat flour work as well? How much would I add to this recipe for oats and oat flour? Was thinking about adding shredded carrots as well. How much would you recommend? Trying to add more nutrients! Thanks

My oldest chihuahua was just diagnosed with congestive heart disease and I was looking for a healthier treat… All 4 of my dogs go crazy for these. I did omit the salt and used low sodium stock.

    1. Em says:

I’m sorry for you and your Chihuahua. My baby girl Princess was diagnosed with it at 3. She was on heart and lung pills for her whole life. When I lost her, I lost the huge part of my heart.
Now I have two wonderful pound rescues! They were supposed to be Chihuahuas too, but they grew up as Terrier/Schnauzer mixes and are the most loving fur babies! They will never take Princess’ place, but they have their own place in my heart. I think God gave me a huge heart because I love animals so much. I can’t imagine every living my life without them. Those that do miss the most loyal love they could ever have!
Wish more humans were as kind and caring as they are. lol

  10. Di says:

Thanks for this recipe! Currently making a double batch and although the dogs haven’t had the finished product yet, my older dog is driving me insane! He keeps running to the kitchen to bark at the oven. Think these are going to be a massive success!
