  • Ketchup: Use your favorite mild-tasting brand with minimal ingredients.
  • Horseradish: Adds a hint of zesty, spicy flavor. Adjust to your heat preference.
  • Worcestershire Sauce: Adds savory depth of flavor. Use coconut aminos if soy-sensitive.
  • Fresh Lemon Juice: Enhances the flavor with a fresh brightness.
  • Stone House Seasoning: Optional – Try the sauce first, then mix in if desired. My house blend of salt, pepper, and garlic. The ketchup used may affect whether you need it.
  • Hot Sauce: Optional – Can add if you want extra heat or serve on the side.

Recipe Success Tips

  • Use Fresh Horseradish: Fresh makes a big taste difference—older jars lose potency.
  • Use Fresh Lemon Juice: It adds a brighter flavor, but bottled real lemon juice works as well.
  • Taste-Test Before Chilling: Adjust the seasoning to your taste before chilling.
  • Chill for Best Flavor: Chilling a bit brings flavors together.
  • Make a Double Batch: It is a favorite sauce that disappears quickly and stores well!

Storage Tips

  • Store: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks. If the ingredients have settled, stir before serving.
  • Make Ahead: Prepare as directed. Store in an airtight container for 1-2 weeks or cover the serving bowl with wrap if serving within 1-2 days. If the ingredients have settled, stir before serving.
  • Freeze: Store in an airtight, freezer-safe container for 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. There may be a slight texture change once thawed. Stir to ensure it’s well combined before serving.

Delicious recipe! I’ve made it several times and continue to get compliments. I used to use Crosse & Blackwell Cocktail Sauce religiously and have tried several recipes however none came close…This is superior! Thank you!

I tried this recipe a few weeks ago because you had said “y’all” in your comment. Southern gal. Southern cooking. I’m back at it for Super Bowl Sunday. My wife requested it. And I always consider her requests, especially when they align with my own!

I never made my own sauce (and I do cook) but I ran out of the bottled stuff during company visiting. I googled home made and found this one so I tried it. Not only did I like it better than the bottled stuff but my guests raved about it and asked where I purchased it. They did not believe I made it from scratch in about 5 minutes. Well, that’s it. Easy, quick and much tastier. No more bottled stuff for me!!! Thanks Robyn Stone !!!!

    1. Robyn Stone says:

Thank you for sharing your recipe, it is fabulous. I have some tempura shrimp that I haven’t been loving, I finally decided it was the bottled cocktail sauce. I found your recipe and in 5 mins had the best tempura shrimp ever.
The sauce has such a fresh flavor, the ingredients play so well on each other. I love lemon and horseradish in cocktail sauce, and this was the perfect amount of both. I will not buy bottled cocktail sauce again, ever

    1. Robyn Stone says:

I’m so glad you loved this cocktail sauce. I didn’t like the taste of the commercial cocktail sauces, either.

    It’s real good.
