Cookie Dough Dip Recipe

Cookie Dough Dip
Pin It

My sister-in-law made the most delicious cookie dough dip a while back for a family birthday. One little bite of that stuff and I was gone – hook, line and sinker! This time of year I love to have delicious dip recipes for serving when we get together with family and friends, tailgating events, and the holidays. I knew I needed something in addition to my usual spiced caramel apple dip and immediately knew I’d make this dip, but with a little bit of a change.

Oh my heavens!

It was delicious before with just the chocolate chips, but with the little something-something that I added it is out of this world!

Wanna know what I added?

Toffee bits!

That little bit of crunch and toffee flavor tipped this already delicious dip right on over to out of this world!

I’ve served it with chocolate graham crackers, honey graham crackers, Ritz crackers, and even some apple wedges. But y’all, this dip would be heavenly just licking it straight off the spoon. You just need a cracker or apple slice to look dignified while you are gobbling it up. So, the choice is really yours on what you serve with this dip.

Here’s how I made it.

Cream together butter and cream cheese.

Add in your confectioner’s sugar.

Next comes your brown sugar.

Vanilla.

Yum!

Toss in your chocolate chips. I personally like to use milk chocolate chips, but you can decide which you prefer the best.

I think dark chocolate chips are my second favorite, followed by semi-sweet.

But go with your favorite.

And then some of these little babies.

They give this dip that extra little bit of something to take it from great to Oh My Stars!!!

Mix it all together until well-combined and then watch out.

I think it is the best cookie dough dip in all the land.

You really do need to make this stuff soon.

I promise!

The most delicious recipe for cookie dough dip you've ever tasted.

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Instructions

  1. Cream together cream cheese and butter.

Idk what I done wrong but mine was runny.

    • 30
      Robyn says:

I’m not sure why it would be runny, Erica. For the cream cheese, I only use Philadelphia Cream Cheese or Publix brand and haven’t had any problems with that in all the times that I’ve made it. Maybe try switching your cream cheese to one of those brands and see if it works better for you.

    • 31
      Dara says:

Mine was a little runny too but the flavor was still there. I did use the 1/3 less fat cream cheese, that might have made a difference?
I am going to put it in the refrigerator and see if it thickens up a little.

      • 32
        Robyn says:

Hi Dara, I don’t recommend using the lower fat cream cheese for just that reason. I think the recipe holds up better by using the full-fat version. The brands I’ve used for cream cheese are Philadelphia and Publix brand and have not had any issues. I hope it thickened up for you in the refrigerator. But most of all, I’m tickled you got the flavor! It is so yummy!

  29. 33
    Nicole says:

Can this be made in advance and refrigerated? Or will it affect the taste or consistency? if it’s ok to refrigerate, should it be served cold or left out to become room temperature first?

    • 53
      Robyn says:

Hi Nat! It can definitely be made ahead and refrigerated. That’s actually what I do before parties, etc. Then, just pull out of the refrigerator and allow to reach room temperature for serving, about 10-15 minutes.

    Josie says:

I don’t own a mixer, is there any way to make this without one?

    • 57
      Robyn says:

If you don’t have any type of mixer, then I would allow all of the ingredients (such as the cream cheese) to get really softened at room temperature and then blend together by hand with a rubber spatula. It will require a bit more elbow grease, but should work just fine.

I made it with mini semi-sweet chocolate chips (I think it is easy to use with pretzels and such). I also like it refrigerated and cold, I think it tastes good while giving it a thicker texture…Even though it hardly lasted long enough to make it to room temperature! I liked pretzels with this too, my husband enjoyed it with animal crackers, and I also thought it tasted good with apples & graham crackers : )

    • 110
      Robyn says:

      Hi Shay,
I’ve not ever softened my cream cheese in the microwave for this recipe. I allow it to sit on the counter with the butter while the butter softens and then mix them both together. I don’t use fat-free or low fat cream cheese and the brands I have used have been Philadelphia and Publix. Hope that helps you, Shay. If it continues to be runny for you when you make it, maybe don’t softened the cream cheese and just cream it with the softened butter straight out of the refrigerator. Then, when it is all made, place it in a covered bowl back into the refrigerator for a while to get more firm before serving.

      Enjoy!

Hi! I tried this today and it was very tasty! However, I thought the cream cheese flavor was a little overbearing, (I think it’s just my personal taste though, my family loved it) This may seem like a dumb question, the obvious solution would be to just add less cream cheese, however I’m not very good at making food so I’m wondering if I added 6oz instead of 8 would that throw the whole recipe off?

    • 125
      Robyn says:

Hi Sandra, I’m so glad everyone liked this! It is a favorite of ours! I don’t believe it will majorly change the recipe to reduce the cream cheese a touch. You may want to increase the amount of confectioner’s sugar to make sure you have the right consistency. You also may want to try refrigerating the dip overnight as I’ve noticed that reduces the cream cheese flavor a good deal.

Let me know how it turns out! I can’t wait to hear!

Adding more brown sugar gave it the raw cookie dough taste an texture (gritty like). You just need to taste and add when you get it all combined ( but before Heath chips and chocolate chips). Just my thoughts…. But this is a new fave of our nonetheless!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

    Hi Robyn,

You show this recipe with graham crackers. What else would you use as the “vehicle” to get this delish stuff to your mouth?

      Robyn says:

      Hi Nickie!
I like to use any number of different “vehicles” depending on my mood at the time. One of my favorites though are crisp apple slices. YUM!
Other ideas are pretzels, vanilla wafers, or other types of cookies. Really though, a spoon works pretty well! LOL!

I want to make this because My boyfriend loveS cookie dough but he hates a lot of chocolate (white, milk, dark) but he can do the heath bar bits. What would be a good replacement for the chocolate chips?

    • 133
      Robyn says:

Hi Brittany, you could change the chocolate chips out with peanut butter chips. Some days I wish I didn’t like chocolate nearly as much as I do! :)

I’m thinking about making this. What should I eat with this dip? The picture shows chocolate graham crackers but is there anything else?

      Robyn says:

Hi Alex, I like to eat crisp apples, graham crackers – chocolate or regular, or even animal crackers are delicious. I can’t wait to hear how you like it!

Sooo excited to make this!! Can this be made the night before?

    • 137
      Robyn says:

      Hi Monica,
You definitely can make it the night before. I think it actually allows the flavors to deepen just a bit. Be sure to keep it tightly covered or in an airtight container. I hope you enjoy it!

YAH! I’m so glad you liked it, Linda. Love that you served it with all sorts of fruit, too. It really is scrumptious with fruit, I think.

5 Thumbs up! This dip is spoonworthy! But if not using just a spoon, chocolate graham crackers are the best! I recently took it to a scrapbooking weekend where they give a prize for the best homemade snack…guess who won??!!!

I made this the other night and did not read about the reduced fat cream cheese. Well I bought 1/3 less fat (NOT fat free!) and there were NO issues!
With that in mind, the calories for the whole recipe is 4417. I estimated about a total of 3 1/2 cups made. per tablespoon.. 70 calories. Way less than I thought!

Hey I just found this recipe on Pinterest a few days ago and decided to try it last night. I was disappointed that it didn’t taste like cookie dough. Not in the least. I used full fat Philadelphia Cream Cheese, and real butter. It’s good, but it’s not cookie dough. :( So sad…..
