Comeback Sauce Recipe

Comeback Sauce is one of those amazing inventions that I have no idea who created it, but I sure wish I could hug their neck in gratitude.

Comeback Sauce Recipe from

A long standing southern classic, Comeback Sauce comes from the Mississippi region of the south – or so I understand – and I couldn’t be happier that friends of ours from that area while growing up introduced it to my family.

Full of delicious flavor, Comeback Sauce is easily one of my favorite go-to items in my refrigerator for all sorts of things. Of course it works perfectly as a dip for chicken fingers, chicken wings, chicken legs, as a salad dressing, and yep – even on eggs. I might be a little weird for admitting that last thing. Sorry.

My comeback sauce is Thousand Island Dressing with some cayenne pepper whisked in.

What kind/brand of chili sauce do you recommend? All I can think of right now is the Asian (Thai) variety, but I don’t think that is what you are referring to…

When you say chili sauce, do you mean something like Sriracha, that Heinz stuff, or something else?

    • 21

      Hi Kate,
I just use Heinz Chili Sauce, normally. Actually, I can’t think of when I’ve used another kind. :)

Looking forward to making this! How long will it stay fresh if stored in the refrigerator?

    • 31

      Hi Lori,
We go through it fairly quickly at my house, but I’ve had it at least 10-12 days without any issues when stored in an airtight container (like a Mason jar) in my refrigerator. It most likely lasts a little longer, we just eat it too quickly! :)

  28. 32

    I add 1 teaspoon creole seasoning ( Tony Chachere’s)
