Homemade Apple Pie Spice is cozy and delicious for much more than apple pie! Easy recipe for your spice collection and a favorite anytime!
Apple Pie Spice is one of my favorite spice blends to make and keep in my pantry for making so many recipes. It’s delicious in my homemade applesauce, and I especially love to keep it in my spice rack as I gear up for fall recipes like apple cider and holiday baking that surely involves apple pies. It’s delicious sprinkled in hot cocoa or hot tea with honey and lemon. And I love it in granola, cakes, cookies, and even in our slow cooker oatmeal.
We definitely go through it around here!

How to Make Homemade Apple Pie Spice

Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.
- ground cinnamon
- ground nutmeg
- ground allspice
- ground ginger
Recipe Tip!
Make sure you start with fresh spices. Check the expiration dates of each individual spice and smell them all well to be sure they still smell strong and like they should. If any of the spices that make up the recipe have lost their potent aroma, then it will impact the aroma and flavor of your final spice recipe.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Measure each of the ground spices. Then, combine them all in a large mixing bowl.
With a whisk or fork, mix all of the ground spices together.
Once blended, decant the apple pie spice into an airtight container.
I generally make a large batch, but you can easily scale the recipe based on how much apple pie spice you plan to use during the season.
Storage Tips
To store: Place your spice blend in an airtight spice container with a lid that seals well. Store away from light and moisture for best results. This apple pie spice blend usually is best used within 1-2 years.
Makes Great Gifts!
Make a few fresh batches of apple pie spice and put the spice blend in nice glass spice jars with sturdy lids. Tie ribbons around the top, make pretty labels for them, and give them as thoughtful gifts to neighbors and friends!

I love all that cinnamon. This is much like a pumpkin spice blend, except it’s missing the cloves.
Yes, it is very much like a pumpkin pie spice blend. Sometimes, I use this apple pie spice recipe as my base and then just add in the ground cloves as I need them.
