What is a Pork Chop?

A pork chop is a lean cut of pork taken from the loin of the pig. The loin of the pig runs from the shoulder to the hip. There are different types of pork chops, depending on the areas of the loin from which they are cut. It usually includes a rib or portion of the vertebrae for a bone-in pork chop or the bone may be trimmed away for a boneless pork chop.

Can I Use Frozen Pork Chops in the Slow Cooker?

For food safety reasons, I prefer to use fresh pork chops or, if they are frozen, I prefer to thaw them in the refrigerator overnight or thaw them in the microwave before cooking in the slow cooker.

How to Make Slow Cooker BBQ Pork Chops

This recipe couldn’t be much simpler to make if you tried!

What you need:

  • Slow Cooker – I use a 6-quart slow cooker, but for this recipe a larger or smaller one will work fine.

  • Pork Chops – Your favorite
  • BBQ Sauce – Use your favorite BBQ sauce
  1. Prep. Lightly coat the interior of your slow cooker with olive oil or spray with nonstick cooking spray.

Repeat with more meat, then BBQ sauce until all of the meat is in the slow cooker. End with BBQ sauce. Reserve about 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce for serving.

  1. Stephanie Young says:

Hello. How many pork chops can I safely add to a 6 quart crockpot and them be done in 7 hours on low? Iโ€™m cooking 14 thin cut bone in and 8 center cut bone in.

    1. Robyn Stone says:

Stephanie, you can typically cook 4-6 center cut pork chops in a 6 quart slow cooker or 6-8 thin cut bone in pork chops. They should be done cooked on low setting in 7 to 8 hours. Of course, it depends on the thickness of the pork chops.

  2. Pamela Brand says:

If I am cooking 4 pork chops instead of 6 to 8 how long should I cook them for on low?

    1. Robyn Stone says:

Pamela, I would cook them about the same amount of time on low setting. I hope you enjoy!

  3. Jeffrey says:

I followed the recipe but only used 2 bone-in pork chops, about 1.5 pounds total. Delicious flavor but a bit dry. How much do you think I should adjust the time? Maybe 5-6 hours?

    1. Robyn Stone says:

Jeffrey, I would reduce the time. You may want to try 4-5 hours on Low setting. I hope your pork chops are exactly the way you want them next time.

  4. Anne Saitta says:

If you use bonless chops do you still cook them for 7 hours on low

    1. Robyn Stone says:

You would still follow the recipe for the cooking time for boneless pork chops, Anne. Hope you enjoy!

  5. Ashley says:

If using thin cut boneless pork chops would the cooking time change?

    1. Robyn Stone says:

You would still follow the recipe for the cooking time for boneless pork chops, Ashley.

  6. Kathy says:

I have my boneless ones on right now! I just KNOW they’ll be awesome! Thank you so much for the recipe! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hope you enjoy the pork chops, Kathy!

  7. Sherry says:

    Just trying this recipe
Does it change the results if you are short on time to set crick pot on high ? If so how long should it take.?

    1. Robyn Stone says:

Sherry, I’ve found that the sauce does not get thick and really stick to the pork chops when cooked on high setting in the slow cooker.

  8. Karen Preddy says:

I noticed that one recipe stated you cook on low for six hours and the recipe directly below it, which was an identical recipe, stated to cook it seven hours on low. Just need some clarification! Thanks!

    1. Robyn Stone says:

The recipe was correct for 7 hours, Karen. I have updated the post. Hope you enjoy the pork chops. Thank you.

  9. Minerva says:

    Hi Robyn,
I’m just wondering if you ever had to brown the chops first on a skillet prior to putting them in the slow cooker? Just wondering if they would they come out the same.

    1. Robyn Stone says:

I don’t brown the pork chops before placing in the slow cooker, Minerva.
