Peppermint Bark Recipe

Peppermint bark is a holiday favorite around my house. We love to visit the Williams-Sonoma store and buy a tin of their peppermint bark on our trip to see Santa. It’s one of those traditions that started when Little Buddy was just a tiny fella. The peppermint bark was more for me than him at that point. But over the years, it has become one of his favorites, too. It’s one of those delicious nibbles that is perfect with a cup of cocoa. I also love to share it with others at Christmas. It makes the perfect present for teachers, coaches, neighbors, and friends. A definite holiday treat.

Even though we buy that tin of peppermint bark when we visit Santa each year, it’s the only tin I buy. I enjoy making it each year and believe it or not, it is just as good. With minimal ingredients, for just a few dollars, and in less than 15 minutes you can make peppermint bark to enjoy and share this year.

Here’s how I make it.

Peppermint Bark Recipe

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 minute

Total Time: 11 minutes

Yield: 12

A perfect recipe for entertaining or gift giving.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 1/2 cups white chocolate, with cocoa butter
  • 4 teaspoons peppermint extract OR peppermint schnapps (2 teaspoons per chocolate)
  • 1/2 cup peppermint candy, crushed

Instructions

  1. Place waxed paper in a 13x9 baking dish. Leave enough waxed paper along edges to lift peppermint bark from baking dish later.
  2. Melt semi-sweet chocolate in a medium glass bowl for 1 minute.
  3. Remove from microwave and stir. Return to microwave for approximately 10-20 seconds depending on the wattage of your microwave.
  4. Remove from microwave and stir until smooth.
  5. Add 2 teaspoons peppermint extract to semi-sweet chocolate and stir until well-combined. Pour chocolate into a 13x9 baking dish and place in the freezer until hardened, approximately 3 minutes.
  6. Melt white chocolate as did semi-sweet chocolate, taking care not to scorch the chocolate. Add 2 teaspoons peppermint extract to white chocolate and combine well.
  7. Remove baking dish from freezer and pour white chocolate over semi-sweet chocolate.
  8. Sprinkle crushed peppermint candies over white chocolate and return to the freezer until firm, approximately 3 minutes.
  9. Remove from freezer and pull waxed paper from baking dish.
  10. Break peppermint bark into pieces. Place on a dish, in a tin, or in a cellophane bag for gift giving.

This bark is pretty as a picture, looks super-easy, and would be such a crowd pleaser this time of year. I always decorate my Christmas tree with candy canes and plan to buy an extra box of them this year to make this excellent looking treat!

The boys love to make peppermint bark each year. It’s one of those holiday recipes that they can almost do all by them selves. Minus the melting of the chocolate of course. :) I bet your little buddy just loves making this with you as well.
