I hope you guys had a wonderful weekend! I’m just beginning to get over the shock that Sam, my baby boy, the one who should still be toddling around learning his ABC’s, wrapped up eighth grade this past week. As in, he’s now considered a high school freshman! How in the world?! {sniff}

To top matters off, I was looking for a certain photo and opened up one of my memory boxes looking for it. Oh my goodness, y’all! I lost every bit of composure I’ve been trying to cling to this week and sat there and cried as my search for one certain photo lead me down the path of looking at every single photo album, his baby book, and all of his art work since he was born! {sniff}

As I was reading through his baby book, I had to laugh a bit when I read through his favorite foods from the time he started eating real foods. All of them are still on his “go-to” list of favorites – pears, peaches, spinach, salmon (any fish, really!), and sweet potatoes to name a few. So, being super nostalgic, I decided I’d roast these sweet potatoes I’ve been making since he was a wee fella, but that I’ve started giving just a wee bit of spice since he’s older now. (Did I mention that he’s growing up too quickly!?) {sniff}

So, let’s talk about these spicy sweet potato wedges. Shall we?

How to Make Spicy Sweet Potato Wedges

To make them, I started with a few medium sweet potatoes that I scrubbed clean. I prefer to leave the skins on them, but if you would like you can peel them. I then cut my sweet potatoes in half, then cut each of the halves into four wedges. So, for each sweet potato, you will get eight wedges. I put them onto a rimmed baking sheet and drizzled them with olive oil (you can use melted coconut oil, too! YUM!) and then sprinkled them with salt, pepper, and chili powder. I gave them a good toss to make sure they were well coated with the oil and the seasonings and then popped them into the oven to roast.

You’ll want to roast them until they begin to brown, the outside becomes crispy and the inside is fork tender. This takes about 25 minutes. If you like them crispier, you can roast a bit longer. Then, just remove them from the oven and serve! I served it with this amazing avocado dip. Delish!

  1. I love this recipe..simple and delicious. Everyone loves them. It is a healthy replacement for the white potatoe.

  2. What is the pretty looking green dip that is pictured with the spicey roasted sweet potatoes?… Guacamole w cilantro leaves on top? Pesto?…. May I please ask you to print this recipe (the dip) on your site also? Thank you!

  3. Robyn – Since you scrub the potatoes clean and leave the peels on, I am assuming you eat the peels – which I’ve done for white potatoes but never sweet potatoes – I like that! Thanks for another great recipe.

    1. Hi Jan,
      Yes, I do! They are so crisp and delicious on these sweet potato wedges. If you like them on white potatoes, I think you’ll love these, too!

  4. Hi Robyn,

    I just came across your website and I am so thankful I did! Your recipes are easy to follow and look delicious! I got married 9 months ago and I struggle constantly with knowing what to cook, thank you for making your recipes so easy to follow! 🙂

  5. I made these today and they turned out great! They were gone in fifteen minutes! Thank you so much. Best sweet potatoe fries recipie I’ve come across so far!

  6. I love baked sweet potato fries and make them with cayenne pepper, cinnamon, salt and rosemary. After they come out of the oven and are still hot, I hit’em with some honey!

  7. That’s how i bake them as well except i add a drizzle of honey which brings out more sweetness and caramelizes a bit on rhe crispy edges. Yummy!

  8. I received rave reviews for these when I served them to friends. I did spice up the recipe with some cayenne pepper with the chili powder, but still thought they were lacking in spicy. That might be a preference thing, but my wife and a friend said the same thing. Also – I am a very novice cook – I can’t seem to get sweet potatoes to get crispy. Does sweet potato just not get crispy? I try to eat a bit healthy if I can, so I avoid frying.

  9. I made these for dinner tonight and they were amazing!! So quick and easy too. We’re trying to eat less white potatoes, so this recipe is great for us. Thanks for an amazing recipe!!
