What is Buffalo Chicken Dip?
Buffalo Chicken Dip is a creamy, cheesy dip made of cooked chicken, cream cheese, cheese, blue cheese or ranch dressing, buffalo sauce, and a little bit of our homemade Stone House Seasoning for an extra touch. It makes a favorite chicken recipe!
Ingredients
Be sure to see the recipe card below for the full listing of ingredients, instructions, notes, and estimated nutritional information.
Chicken. You can use leftover cooked shredded chicken, store-bought or homemade rotisserie chicken, or some people also use canned chicken in a pinch.
Buffalo Sauce. For the buffalo sauce, I prefer to use my homemade buffalo sauce since it comes together so easily with minimal ingredients. You can also use your favorite store-bought. When using store-bought sauce, I look for one with the least ingredients.
Cream Cheese. You’ll want to use softened cream cheese in this dip to make it easier to combine this dip. You can use full-fat or lower-fat cream cheese.
Cheese. For the cheese, I highly recommend grating the cheese freshly off of the block as the prepackaged cheeses generally have an ingredient added to the cheese to prevent the cheese shreds from sticking together. This causes the cheese to not melt as nicely in recipes.
Blue Cheese or Ranch Dressing. You can customize your dip to your favorite buffalo chicken wing flavors! If you prefer chicken wings with blue cheese dressing, I recommend using that in your buffalo chicken dip. If you prefer the flavor of ranch dressing or if you’ll be making it for a party, I highly recommend using ranch dressing. While I love to use my homemade Buttermilk Ranch Dressing, you can also easily use your favorite store-bought dressing.
Stone House Seasoning. I make a house seasoning called Stone House Seasoning of garlic, salt, and pepper that I always keep in my kitchen. It adds so much flavor to recipes and makes a huge difference in this buffalo chicken dip. If you do not have any on hand, simply use 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and a pinch of garlic powder in this recipe.
Optional Toppings: You can add additional toppings such as sliced green onions, chopped fresh parsley, and blue cheese crumbles.

I’ve included how to make this fabulous dip in both the oven and the slow cooker so that you have all the options available for making it!

Great recipe and I love it,my family loves too! Thanks Robin
for the buffalo chicken dip, can it be served at room temp once it’s been cooked. thinking of taking to a party, but won’t have a way to keep it oven hot
Hi Lori,
If at all possible, I would recommend keeping the dip warm at least until just before you serve it since it has dairy products and poultry in the dip. Could you make the slow cooker version and then just keep it warm that way until right before serving?
This is just the recipe I wanted to find now.that football season is here. I’m with you, I have a hard time enjiying chicken wings – chicken skin is gross! But I love the flavors. This recipe will definitely be in my menu soon.
Great recipe, I definitely like this one more than the others I’ve seen online. Would be great to see an estimated calorie count though because I can’t stop eating it!
I make this all the time. Great for football parties and tailgating. I double the recipe and add celery chopped up. Did I mention bottled blue cheese dressing. Yummy and spicy. Make sure to use Frank’s Hot Sauce!
Do you taste the blue cheese in the recipe? Can you alternate with Ranch?
Yes you can. I do not like blue cheese so I use ranch…we all love it!
Excellent, we make a similar version of football Sundays. Love it.
OMG! i just love buffalo chicken dip. Planing to surprise my Mom and dad at new year eve with my cooking. Thanks for sharing!
Such a good dip! My husband always asks me to make it! However, he would eat the whole thing in one sitting!! 🙂 Love it
I made this and substituted the blue cheese dressing for ranch. I’m also cooking it in the crock pot! Smells Delish! Thanks for sharing!
Super bowl Sunday is not complete for us without a great dip!! love this!!!! Go Hawks!!
