Can I tell you something? This chicken dip recipe is seriously addictive. Like, you’ll have to make it for every get together you have for the next year because you love it so much and so does everyone else.

On the bright side, no one will ever guess how easy this Poppy Seed Chicken dip is to make. Meaning, you won’t mind making it for all those game day get togethers, holiday parties, or just to nosh on at home with your family.

This chicken dip is also amazing on crackers, celery stalks or with apple wedges. Or, on just about anything you can think of that you’d want to eat with it.

Here’s my trick. I use my slow cooker to cook the chicken overnight and then mix it all together in my mixer, pop it into an airtight container and then stick it into my refrigerator until ready to serve.

It practically takes no effort to make at all.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Instructions

  • Mix all ingredients together until well-combined. Place into an airtight container and chill until ready to serve.

Notes

An easy way to prepare the chicken is to make-ahead in the slow cooker or to roast in the oven.

  1. SIlly question, but should the chicken be shredded for this, or how exactly do you prepare it after it is cooked? Thanks so much. I am eager to try this!

    1. That’s not silly at all, Jocelyn! After it has cooked in my slow cooker (or on the stove or oven if you’d prefer), then I remove the chicken and toss it into the bowl of my stand mixer with all the other ingredients. I use the paddle attachment and let it do all the shredding of the chicken as it combines the ingredients. If you don’t have a stand mixer, then I would shred the chicken before combining.

    1. Hi Hailey, I actually just added frozen chicken straight to the slow cooker set on low for 8 hours and let it cook overnight. Then, I removed it from the slow cooker and placed into my stand mixer with the other ingredients to combine. You can also just place thawed or frozen chicken into the slow cooker and cook on a high setting for 4 hours, depending on your slow cooker, if you prefer. Please let me know if you have any other questions on this. It probably sounds harder than it really is. ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I just made this dip for a party this afternoon, and it is really, really good! I love that it’s so simple to make too! I used a rotisserie chicken from Wal-mart just because I like dark and white meat both. Thanks for sharing this recipe! This will definitely be my go-to dish to bring to any party. Wait, who am I kidding….I will probably make this again just for myself! ha ha!

  4. I’m making this for dinner, I mean the football game tonight. I used a rotisserie chicken, and I’m baking the dip, I love hot cream cheese dips and I think this will lend itself well to baking. I have to admit to trying it cold, and it was yummy!

    1. Rachel, I loathe mayo but tried this recipe at a MOPS meeting and was blown away with how good it is! You can’t really tell it’s there. I will actually be making this soon even knowing the mayo is in there.

  5. I was wondering if you have tried this with canned, chunk chicken breast, and if so how was it, and how many/ what size cans would you use? I am just wondering if I was in a hurry or invited to an impromptu get together, if you thought it may work?

  6. I just made this using canned chicken. I used a 6 oz. can and a 12 oz. can. It turned out really well, but I think it needed a bit more chicken. Two 12 oz. cans would probably be best. Two 12 oz. and a 6 oz. if you want it really chunky!
