The savory flavor of this homemade taco seasoning is perfect for taco night! This recipe, a staple in my kitchen for years, combines simple spices for a versatile mix thatโs far more delicious than store-bought packets. Whether you’re making ground beef tacos or chicken fajitas, this seasoning delivers Mexican-inspired taste every time.

We absolutely love tacos and so many Mexican and Tex-Mex recipes in my house, and I use this taco seasoning recipe a lot! Some favorites are my quick-and-easy tacos and my chicken taco soup. I do not use store-bought taco seasoning packets to season my dishes. They can contain preservatives and fillers, so I decided years ago to make my own and created this recipe. I always keep it on hand.

I ran out of taco packets and I made this with all of my spices. I have to say this is better than packets and this saved me because I didn’t have any packs. Thanks for a great taco seasoning recipe. It’s really delicious. Just made this for my pork tacos tonight ๐>
Thanks so much, Teffiney. I’m so glad you love this taco seasoning. I like it so much better when I use my own ingredients so I know what spices are used.
Do you add any water when seasoning is added to meat? Store bought has you add water.
Angela, I don’t add water unless the recipe calls for water. Look at my Best Tacos Recipe to see how I just sprinkle it on the meat and cook.
Hi, highly allergic to chili powder, can I up the cumin to replace it? Or do you have any other suggestions please? Thanks.
Ferryal, I haven’t made this without the chili powder but I would try making 1/4 of the recipe and adjusting the ingredients to your taste with added cumin.
Is this for 1lb of meat?
I canโt stand oregano so Iโm excited to try it!
Kara, for 1 pound of ground beef, I would use about 1 teaspoon of taco seasoning. That is my family’s preference. You and your family may want more.
I add 1 tsp of corn starch. that helps to keep it together. I triple the batch and put in an air tight container from dollar tree. it sit right next to my stone house that I use for everything. thank you robin
Thanks, DanaAnn, I love that you use both this taco seasoning and my Stone House Seasoning.
Wonderful, cheery toneโgreat recipes. Clear!!!๐๐
I canโt wait to try this. My son canโt have oregano so McCormicks taco seasoning is if no use to us. Hoping this is easy on his system. Thank you in advance. ๐
I hope your son can eat this with no problems, Mama Hart. I love that I can make this with only ingredients my family likes and can have.
