How to Make Southern Sausage Cheddar Quiche
You only need a few simple ingredients. Here’s how I make it.
Ingredients
Butterย – You’ll want to let the butter soften before use so that you can easily spread it around the sides and bottom of the skillet you’ll use to bake the quiche.ย
Biscuit Dough Crust: Use Self-rising flour and heavy cream to produce a light, tender, and flaky biscuit crust. You can make self-rising flour at home if you don’t happen to have some on hand. If you want to use a store-bought deep pie crust, you can, but I hope you try this easy biscuit crust because it tastes amazing with this quiche recipe!
Filling: Use Ground breakfast sausage, shredded cheddar cheese, large eggs, milk, salt, and pepper
Step-by-Step Instructions
Preheat and Prep. Preheat oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Prepare the skillet by spreading the softened butter around the inside of a 12-inch, medium-sized skillet. Set the skillet aside.ย
Mix dough for biscuit crust. Mix the ingredients for theย two-ingredient cream biscuit recipeย as the crust. It’s a bit quicker to make than a pie crust.
Press dough in skillet. Once you’ve made the dough, press it into the bottom and up the sides of the skillet about two inches.
Brown the sausage. In another medium skillet, crumble the ground sausage into it and brown it over medium heat until done, for about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Use a slotted spoon to remove/drain the browned sausage and sprinkle it on top of the biscuit dough. Then, top the sausage with shredded cheddar cheese.
Whisk egg mixture. Whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour the egg mixture over the sausage and cheddar cheese.
Bake. Pop it into the oven to bake until the egg mixture has set and cooked through, and the quiche reaches a golden brown on top. About 20 minutes.
Rest and serve. Remove the quiche from the oven and let rest for a minute or so. Then slice and serve.
I enjoy serving for many occasions – and even though it’s quick and easy, it’s also great to make ahead! A special breakfast or brunch for holidays and weekends with my family or weekend guests, as well as brunch parties and showers, are all perfect times to enjoy this cheesy quiche! Add one of the fresh sides listed previously for a meal everyone always loves!

Family favorite called โImpossible Cheeseburger Pieโ using hamburger and cooked in a pie tin was doubled (2 pies) for my parentsโ 8 kids to devour. I look forward to this trying version.
I hope you like this sausage cheddar quiche just as much, Ranae.
Birthday breakfast winner!
I’m so happy this worked out so well for the birthday breakfast, Emerald. Thanks!
Do you think I could use half and half in the crust instead of heavy cream? This looks delish.
Hollie,
There would not be enough fat for the crust if you used half and half.
Can I use GF all purpose flour?
Hi Nancy,
For this recipe, you will need self-rising flour if you make the two-ingredient biscuit recipe for the crust. If you don’t have gluten free self-rinsing flour, you can make it using my recipe for Homemade Self-Rising Flour. Be sure to add a gluten free baking powder to your gluten free all-purpose flour to make it, though. Hope you this helps!
This breakfast reminds me of childhood. My grandma is from Alabama and my favorite breakfast she made was biscuits and gravy. The combo of biscuits and sausage will always remind me of her. I love your take on classic breakfast food. My kids would love it ?
Memories of our grandmothers’ food always has a special place, don’t they? I’m happy you are giving this a try. Thanks so much!

I’m wondering if this work in a glass pie plate since I don’t have an iron skillet. What do you think?
Thanks!
Carla
Hi Carla,
It should be fine as long as your glass dish is oven safe. I hope you enjoy the quiche – it’s delicious! Thanks!
Curious if this could be made the night before. Looks wonderful!
Hi Michells,
I love to make this the night before! I think it turns out best if you go ahead and bake it, cool completely, then refrigerate. Just reheat the next morning when you get ready to serve it. I hope you enjoy it! Thanks! xo
